Biblical Hermeneutics: Introduction to Scripture Studies
Written in 2 dead and one specialized languages by cultures no longer in existence over the course of millennia, the Holy Bible remains a source of mystery, awe, and contention. Though it is easily read in English, it is not easily interpreted. Bible scholars have, over the years, developed various studies within scripture scholarship, that assist the reader in understanding the context and meaning of different bible verses. This course will examine the history of how the bible has been interpreted; the different methods of critical scholarship used to reach a valid interpretation; how the reader and the text interact with each other; and how translations can alter meaning. Students will learn how to use scripture resources to aid in understanding the bible. Students will learn resources to aid in understanding the bible. This course will equip beginner and expert alike to more easily study the bible and how it impacts their lives and the world today.
